Document Summary

The exam will cover everything that we"ve discussed in class through friday (2/20). Note, that we have not necessarily covered everything that was in these sections. If it was not discussed in class, you will not be responsible for it. Also remember, that material from exam 1 (chapters 14-16) as well as 231 may be needed for this exam. Listed below are topics that are of particular importance. This is not an exclusive list of what might be on the test, but outlines the things i consider particularly important. Nomenclature: you are not responsible for naming complex molecules. You should be familiar with the basic naming conventions for the functional groups we"ve discussed (alcohols, ethers, thiols, sulfides, disulfides, epoxides, aldehydes, and ketones). You should also be able to recognize these functional groups along with hydrates, acetals, imines, cyanohydrins and ylides. Acid-base chemistry: you do not need to know specific pka values.
