Error #4: dichotomization: our tendency to parse a complex and continuous reality into divisions of two. Sex has been used to refer to biological (or natural) differences between males and females. Gender has been used to refer to the learned cultural differences between men and women. This approach assumes bio or nature is separate from culture. Sex is vast, infinitely malleable continuum; many gradations running from female to male. People born with reproductive organs that do not fit typical definitions of male and female. Many do not have any health problems yet 1-2 babies out of 1000 born receive surgery to normalize genital appearance.
