Document Summary

Prompt: compare and contrast the parthenon in athens and the pantheon in rome. Romans and greeks are both known for their amazing architecture dedicated to their gods. Two of their most amazing works include the pantheon and the parthenon. Although they both sound similar, they are very different by the various characteristics that form them. In 447 bce, the greeks dedicated a magnificent temple to athena at the athenian akropolis. This temple is today known as the parthenon. The architects, kallikrates and iktinos, designed the temple to be a great octastyle doric temple. Unlike the other temples in the greek period, the columns supporting the parthenon were much slender as well as more spaced out. The architects also used a 9 to 4 ratio while building to significantly lessen the weight the columns would have to hold. The architects seem to convince the viewer that this temple is a classical doric style temple.
