The reason why we have opiate receptors is because we have these naturally occuring compounds in our body. Feedback loop between anterior cingulate cortex and amydala: perserverance. Causes the stop of release of all neurotransmitters. In the periphery, we are building up ne and serotonin due to cheese effect (trp --> tyramine (mimics ne) Picrotoxin - plant toxin that blocks gaba receptors. Lack of gaba, too much excitation in body. As antagonist wears off, people show symptoms of dyskinesia (too much movement) Describe long term effect of thcon cannabinoid receptors. Cannabinoid receptors and g proteins dissapear after tolerance due to chronic thcuse. Gaba can be dangerous if taken too much. Stop presynaptic release of gaba in nucleus accumbens.
