Document Summary

Luddite: that term refers to a person who is afraid or dislikes new technology (also called: a technophobe) The word came from a group of textile workers from britain that fought against technology during the industrial revolution. They were afraid to lose their jobs. They broke machines and burned down their factories. Response from the state was quick and severe - it was made a capital offence. Many luddites were killed/deported, and some were shot dead. People, however, tend to use the word incorrectly . Ludite is used to refer to someone who ignores and doesn"t like technology. Luddites didn"t hate technology; they were just afraid of losing their jobs because of it: a new luddite movement has originated, the unabomber, ted kaczynski is the most extreme example of it. We love texts, twitter, and google because it releases dopamine.
