This includes straight forward historical facts and the underlying motives, both of which determine the social function of the work of art. Venus of willendorf : cult statue from willendorf, history: nobody really knows exactly how this statue was used, because this was prehistoric (pre-writing of history) It is about two inches in height and was very small because of the migratory lifestyle of the people. It is not to depict the ideal beauty of a woman but rather the cultural demand of fertility.
