Attribution theory (heider) is how we explain a behavior. When we try to explain our own confusing behavior: Situational cause: we blame the situation that we are in. Theories that explain how we learn/ the development of prejudices: realistic conflict theory: prejudice, discrimination <=> conflict. The driving force of that prejudice is the scare of sources: social identity theory: we lead/direct ourselves with a particular group. The more we affiliate with a group, the more our identity will be defined by that group. Explain why people feel the need to categorize or stereotype others, producing the in-group sense of. Us versus them that people adopt toward out-groups. including social categorization, social identity, social comparison: attraction: Similarity: people who are similar (attitudes, beliefs, or interests) tend to have a long-term relationship to each other.
