Week 1 lecture 2- biological explanations and principles of biology applied to sex. Sec differences in phenotype (traits) develop because of multiple parallel processes, some of which are inter-dependent, and some of which are independent. Social pattern in which boys are delayed in verbal/language development while females excel in those areas early. This could possibly be drawn back to how society treats males and females since infancy; young boys get legos, girls get dolls. Biology encompasses physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, sociology, and many others as the study of living things. The goal of science is to explain the phenomena around us, predict what may happen in the future, and control the circumstances when testing a prediction. All biological phenomena have physical explanations based in other disciplines- we are sacs of molecules, but so much more. Reductionism- the ability to explain things through a scientific perspective. Theories are supported or not by experimental outcomes.
