Document Summary

Cultural geographers: study relationships between people and environments, and the ramifications of these relationships, and how space shapes people"s lives. Ucla"s location is an example of why it is such a popular uni. How do space and place relate to social processes, how they are social processes space: social process that takes shape through relation/power place: the identities assigned to these processes, how spaces are named, characterized, identified. This classroom space is made and remade as a classroom through sociopolitical processes throughout the day, as well as all of history (what do we use this space for) The identification of this classroom as a classroom makes it a culturally significant place (why do we call this space what we do?) These terms are argued over for purposes of power (economic, political, social), so that they can be contested - what is this place, why is it called what it is, and how it can be changed/contested/used.
