The 2 basic entities in the universe are mass and energy. Understanding cosmology provides a foundation for studying earth. The sun and the earth are examples of celestial bodies. Astronomer: a person who studies celestial bodies. Geocentric model: celestial model where a fixed earth is orbited by the sun, moon and planets within a shell of stars. Star: an immense sphere of incandescent gas that emits intense energy. Heliocentric model: celestial model where all planets, including earth, orbit the sun.
