Document Summary

Since food is now more plentiful then it was several hundred years ago, we have more access to food and require less physical activity. Therefore, americans are beginning to consume much more than their exercising out. Added fats, grains and sweeteners increase energy in the form as food available to us at about 600 kcal per day. Energy balance is when energy consumption matches energy expenditure. So when there is a positive energy balance, energy consumption > energy expenditure, there is an increase in body weight. When there is a negative energy balance, energy consumption < energy expenditure, there is a decrease in body weight: describe what it means to be in energy balance, negative energy balance, and positive energy balance. When there is a positive energy balance, you"re taking in more calories than you"re burning and when there is negative energy balance, you"re taking in less calories than you"re burning.
