Document Summary

The transition was difficult because they were attempting to find common ground between groups with incredibly different political views. The transition moved towards a democratic political system where all legitimate political opinions can be voiced which was difficult because the opinions were very different and hard to marry. The tough political situation led to increased social tension because of the devastating amounts of political violence that not only effected people of the state but innocent civilians. The historical memory movement, is a reflective movement in spain that has occurred in the last fifteen years. This movement aimed to create a common interpretation of the spanish civil war, the ii republic and the franco dictatorship, in other words the events that took place during the 1930"s and after. The historical movement exploited personal and public memories of the war in order to force the overall spanish translation of history into a singular point of view.
