Hdp 1- midterm review notes: 2 types of development, ontogenetic= lifespan, phylogenetic= across species, change vs development, development. Successive: change= not the above, developmental systems theory=complex coaction of many factors (nature and nurture, tinbergen"s 4 ways of asking questions allows us to think this way. Innate vs learned: experiment with cats and rats. Cats kill rats even if raised but would not kill species of rats they were raised with. A stereotyped behavior shown by every member of the species and does not require learning. Emerges regardless of environmental conditions, e. g. in isolation (imagine a duckling hatched in laboratory) Not based on prior experience (with maternal calls) Does not emerge unless introduced in/by environment. Requires prior experience; cannot be formed in isolation. Fire cooking new foods and nutrients. Kinship terms etc: plasticity vs robustness, robustness -- resistance to change ~ experience-expectant , plasticity -- ability to change (environment affect the genotype) ~ experience-dependent .
