Document Summary

Feb 4, 2016: arguments on the existence of god, ontological argument: ontology = study of the nature of being. Anselms argument for the existence of god: aposteriori argument that relies on the natural definition of what is being discussed to conclude that god exists. Addresses the fool who understands that is being claimed but beliefs the claim is wrong. Anselm says, you cant claim to understand the concept of god and deny its existence= you must not know the concept of god. Concepts: singular: apply to a single thing, general: apply to a number of things in the same category. Target: the singular concept picked out by the concept: the concept refers to a specific agent= target, there are singular concepts without a target (largest prime number) Suppose by reductio: gcb has no target. If gcb has no target then egcb is greater than gcb (existence is more than non-existence: therefore, the concept of egcb is greater than gcb.
