The residents of omelas are pretty happy, even though they may not be as technologically advanced. The residents of omelas have chosen to ignore the scarred child that is locked in the cellar. In order to achieve happiness, people should stand up for what is right, instead of allowing others to suffer at their expense. The lack of actions towards the disabled child, illustrates how happiness comes with the sadness of others, it shows society turning away from sensitive issues and the choices people can make, but choose not to.
