Document Summary

Muscles from the shoulder and arm are arranged from anterior view to posterior view. Anterior view: biceps brachii, deltoid (you can view this muscle on posterior side), brachialis. These muscle are involved in flexing the forearm (biceps, brachialis), flexing the arm and abducting arm (coracobrachialis, deltoid), and medial rotation of the arm (subscapularis). Posterior view: triceps brachii, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres major, teres minor. These muscles are involved in extending forearm (triceps), abducting the arm (supraspinatus), rotating arm laterally (infraspinatus, teres minor), and adducting the arm (teres major). The following incisions will be made in (figure 1). First, locate the following bony landmarks: deltoid tuberosity (a-b), medial epicondyle (d) and lateral epicondyle (c). Be sure to make the incision carefully without exerting a lot of pressure. Cautiously reflect and completely remove the skin. (note: stay superficial; try to preserve the superficial veins of the upper extremity. )
