Document Summary

We often acquire knowledge by trusting authorities. Conclusion is logical this is a crow (minor premise) therefore, this crow is black (conclusion) Tradition/tenacity - it has always been that way . We often infer what is true from the way things are (societal norms) Ex) historical view of woman as unsuitable for work requiring math. We often decide whether something is true of false by attending to how we feel. Empiricism - i"ll believe it when i see it if observations suggest it"s true it is probably true. Ex) behaviorism (the black box) only observable behavior. Science - it makes logical sense and observations back it up . Science combines the principles of rationalism and empiricism. Knowledge is gained through theorizing, systematic observation, skeptical analysis and all of this is verified by failure to falsify claims. Common sense is in the eye of the beholder (subjective) Even when based on rationality and observation common sense is unreliable.
