Document Summary

The 1900s in europe was an extreme and revolutionary time period. All across the continent, elements of life were altering imperially, industrially and economically. Large cities emerged, machines and factories took the place of human labor and the combination of all of this fueled the economy greatly. With these new improvements, cultural and social changes began to occur naturally based on this new way of life. Art, in specific, saw a great shift from the old, typical ways of art using fine art materials to a more expressive, abstract form using new materials. Innovative artists emerged and created movements that have made a lasting impact on society and the art culture of not only europe but also the world. Many artists found themselves creating artistic responses to the great changes occurring throughout europe, specifically in the 1930s as the world recovered from the first world war.
