Document Summary

A war that is unrestricted in terms of the weapons used, the territory or combatants involved, or the objectives pursued, especially one in which the laws of war are disregarded . In terms of world war ii, this was one of the first instances of total war, in that citizens and non-combatants were specifically targeted. Additionally, new types of weapons, i. e. bombs, made it possible for far more large-scale destruction. Wwi was no longer productive, and thus war style shifted to total annihilation of the opposing sides society and economy, rather than just battlefield destruction. The destruction wreaked by this style of war left europe in total disrepair in the immediate post war years, i. e. warsaw.
