Behavior therapy applies learning principles to the elimination of unwanted behaviors; works best with anxiety disorders. Counterconditioning conditioning new responses with stimuli that previously triggered an unwanted response. Exposure therapies treating anxieties by repeatedly subjecting people to that which they normally fear or avoid. Aversive conditioning associating an unpleasant state with an unwanted behavior.
