In the short term use creates relaxation and decreased social inhibition, but long term it creates agitation, loss of short term memory, liver disease, and damage to endocrine system: high comorbidity with other use disorders. Tobacco use disorder: most prevalent in use and causes the most number of deaths. Marijuana use disorder: this is the most commonly used illicit drug. In large dose the drug can create hallucinations. In smaller doses it can reduce social anxiety and inhibits decision making as well as problem solving. Opiate use disorder: use is on the rise in epidemics through abuse of prescription pain drugs, most common in affluent urban areas, these are highly addictive and create strong withdraw effects.
