Comte coined the term sociology, he comes at the end of the. 1700s, says we passed through 3 eras of history (like marx, believes societies go through history) religious era (supernatural), metaphysical era (external but maybe not supernatural), scientific/positive era (scientific mindset of the world). Most important study = sociology because it studies society which is the most important thing. Conflict is seen as functional but not as the basis of society as itself. Relationship of economics & social institutions (examples and how they relate?) Religion = opiate of the masses (numbs like a drug) Social institutions = consequences of economic activity and serving those who control the economic activity. They disagree on the kind of conflict hegel believes it"s the conflict of ideas, marx believes production moves history forward (economic world)
