Span of management/span of control: for each position (box), how many people directly report to you: always as a ratio ex: 1:5, do not count dotted lines. Centralization vs decentralization: centralization everything in one place, decentralization pushing decision making downwards in hierarchy, trend is to decentralize (trust people to do something) Different ways to organize pros and cons of each: functional typical; structure by departments & hierarchy, groups employees into departments based on similar skills, tasks & use of resources. Task forces vs teams: task force = temporary, team = much more ongoing, pulls people from different parts of the company. Re-engineering = redesigning the radical redesign of business processes to achieve dramatic improvements in cost, quality, service, and speed.
