Structure: made up of the epithelium and supporting lamina propria. The epithelium is tall columnar pseudostratified with cilia and goblet cells. Right lung has more lobes and bronchi than the left lung! Occurs in the terminal and respiratory bronchioles. Dilation of airways due to relaxation of smooth muscle. Narrowing of airways due to contraction of smooth muscle. Caused by vagus nerve (parasympathetic tone) or histamine release (allergic reactions: what are the alveoli, Function: oxygen from inhaled air diffuses through the walls of the alveoli & adjacent capillaries and into the red blood cells, the oxygen is carried by the blood to the body tissues.
