Essay Title: Healthcare Outreach for Dialysis Patients
Author Name: Kwabena Ahenkang Reviewer Name: Hannah Dasari
1. What passage, words, images, or phrases did you find most engaging or interesting?
What I found most engaging/interesting would be the certain medical terms which
you’ve used throughout your entire essay. Being a medical student myself I’ve
learned words which I never knew also. It shows how much enthusiasm you put to
your work which is excellent indeed. The words I thought were engaging would be
QCDC- Quality care Dialysis center, ESRD- End Stage Renal Disease, and ND-
Naturopathic Doctor.
2. What are the overall strengths of this draft? The overall strengths of this draft was the
time you put into explaining the challenges and/or relationships you spent with the
patients when going through the dialysis treatment. I liked how captivating this draft
was giving in much detail to what type of patients you met and how they were around
you as well.
3. Please talk about the extent to which the chapter accomplishes the following tasks:
a. Identifies clearly within the first page or so a main topic usually associated with
one or more learning areas? On this first page you certainly identified your
learning area because it gave a description of what kind of duties a dialysis
technician would do and what steps to take in order to become one too.
b. Sets up a clear structure, making it easy for the reader to follow? I do feel it set
up a very clear structure and I followed the essay from start until the end. It was
an interesting essay.
c. Has an opening that engages the reader? The opening provided a good
introduction of where the author worked such as in the company of Fresenius
medical care. It also has us understand what the company’s goal is to help
patients who suffer with CKD and ESRD which was perfect.
d. Includes detailed accounts of experience? The detailed accounts of experience on
each page provided a good description of how the author went through some
challenges having to meet patients of all personalities. All patients had different
unique personalities which were shown through behavior around the author. The

author also put in a lot of time, effort, and enthusiasm in doing her job by
providing good care to all of her patients.
e. Includes critical and analytical reflection on that experience? I felt there was a
good reasoning of critical/analytical reflection because we get to understand more
about how patients were treated through a naturopathic doctor. We also learn the
certain foods which had to be restricted from the patient’s diets to see good
numbers on their health charts.
f. Includes a concluding paragraph or paragraphs that bring a sense of closure to the
topic? I liked the closure because it ended with a happy ending giving in much
appreciation in life.
g. Addresses most of the important aspects of the topic, so that the section seems
comprehensive? There are definitely great aspects of the topic such as getting to
learn about a uniqueness of being in a dialysis technician’s job, holistic
therapeutics, having empathy for patients, being professional at your job, and a
good description of health care outreach for serving dialysis patients.
4. Do you find yourself wanting to know more about certain subtopics? If so, which? I
thought that this essay provided good information and was perfectly written.
Therefore, I don’t think we should put in anymore subtopics.
5. If you get confused at any point, please indicate where. I’d say I wasn’t confused at
all. It was a very good feel essay and kept me reading.
6. Through reading this submission, can you identify what the writer learned? What? I
would say the writer learned a whole lot from her experiences working at the hospital
as a dialysis technician. The challenges she goes through taking care of these patients
and the personalities she sees within them also. The type of treatments which are
given and how she never gets to see these patients again is heart touching. These
patients are either still alive or pass away even if getting treatment. It just depends on
how much treatment they are getting and how good their diet is as well.
