Human and non-human environments description from syllabus. Elements of literary analysis : 9 elements of literary analysis. Attitude: a writer"s take is re ected in her/his attitude. Way to interpret attitude is looking at the positive / negative / neutral connotations of word choices. Tone: the way that attitude is expressed. Ex) critical, outraged, objective, somber, just, emotional, sad. Word choice / diction: the level of diction, not just to the positive / negative connotations of words, the type of language that is used. Sentence structure (syntax: the arrangement of words into sentence patterns. Are the sentences long of short or varied in length: simple, compound, complex, expanded simple sentence. Does the writer use parallelism (coordination) or antithesis (contrast): parallelism: when two or more phrases or clauses are parallel in structure, the message is that they are equally important (see example of expanded simple sentence above)
