I think it is safe to say we are facing an extinction crisis. We have just begun to see the effects of global warming and other environmental impacts from humans, and these are going to continue for years. We have already lost 875 document species, but in reality, it is estimated to be closer to 2 million. It is difficult estimating species lost when there are still millions of species we have never discovered, and ones that are going extinct before we find them. I also think, if you look into the history of extinctions, we are at the beginning stages. None of them major extinction crises happened over night, but over a number of years.
