Learned, not inherited, passed on through language acquisition and socialization which is referred to as enculturation. Example: ethnicity is korean and culturally as american. Cultures are not static; they are always changing in response to changing social dynamics. Race: refers to the biology of a person, their physical characteristics such as bone structure, and skin, hair or eye color. Ethnicity: not biological, refers to cultural factors, it is a social identity associated with shared behavior patterns such as regional culture, ancestry, and language. Ex: ingrid is white (race), but here ethnicity is german. Acculturation: picking up ideas and beliefs of other cultures, indicates a group"s progression of adopting cultural patterns (language, beliefs, and religion) of a host or dominant group, a very progressive process. Individuals obtain, maintain, and/or abandon values and behaviors of the original and host culture.
