Affect is related to the experiences and the feelings we all have in our daily lives. Feeling happy, sad, embarrassed, etc. is part of our affect. Valence (positive & negative), arousal (high & low energy) Valence: the pleasantness or unpleasantness of a person, object, etc. The experience of emotion is controlled by one of the evolutionarily oldest parts of the brain. The amygdala (region in the limbic system) is particularly important in fear and aggression. Changes happen in your body when you experience emotion - helps you adapt to your environment. Basic emotions are the ones that are based on the arousal produced by the sns. This basic emotions do not require much cognitive processing. Do not require a lot of thought or interpretation.
