Document Summary

Vegetative cells are just a typical growing bacteria (bacillus - think of one growing). Once they stop growing, they convert to a different type of cell (differentiation) When cells stop growing, they convert to a spore (survival structure) Spores are the most resistant form of life known. The spore doesn"t do anything; it"s a survival structure. Spores can survive in high temperatures, high pressures, radiation, etc. They can only be killed by autoclaves. Autoclave: 121 degrees celsius and high pressure for 15 minutes. Germination occurs after years and takes 1-2 hours. There are 16 carbons and 18 carbons in fatty acid chains in bacteria. Site of the wound is where phenol goes (there are better options for surgery now, though) A spore is viable if it can initiate growth or continue growing. As soon as they"re unable to reproduce, they are dead. Spores are alive and initiate germination and then growth.
