PSY 1001 Study Guide - Midterm Guide: Sleep Spindle, Sexual Arousal, Limbic System
Document Summary
Sensation: the process by which our sense receptors and nervous systems receive and represent stimuli from the environment. Perception: organization of sensation components into a recognizable form, object or event. Progression from the individual elements to the whole. Progression from the whole idea, into the individual parts. Most important when the stimulus information is weak. Transduction: the process by which the neurons systems convert an external stimuli, like light or sound, into electrical signals within the neurons. We always use the neurons to relay information to the brain. Perception of taste is influenced by other factors such as smell. Receptor cells take in and send to olfactory bulb that sends to brain. Iris: colored part of the eye that controls how much light gets let in. The dilation of the pupil also is effected by social situations. Accommodation: where the lenses changes to focus light on the back of your eye.
