Psy:2301 - lecture 1 - introduction & contemporary clinical psychology. Focuses on psychological phenomena encountered in a clinical context. Clinical psychologists are no longer the primary service providers in this science. Social workers are now in charge of primary service. Clinical psychologists serve as public policy developers, developers of treatment plans for use by primary care providers, teachers, or administrators. They are not front line therapists, they work behind the scenes. Impressive advances in understanding of psychopathology, methods of assessment, and treatment strategies have been made in modern day clinical psychology. Proliferation of pseudoscientific understandings, assessments, and treatments. Pseudoscientific = not based on research literature, more based on personal experience of the psychologist or perceptions made.
