There are both conscious and nonconscious factors influencing how we act. These nonconscious factors include implicit attitudes that are outside of our awareness. Dual process theory states that we have both a fast unconscious system of reasoning and a slow effortful system of reasoning. Human evolution and the forces that shaped it also shaped how we reason and interact. Selection and the process of evolution has had a strong impact on our behavior. Some cultures favor independence and self-determination while other cultures are more interdependent and based on group identity. Quantitative data is based on numerical data collection and analysis.
