This study guide is not intended to be comprehensive, but focuses on the main elements to appear on exam 1. Creations/ technology allow you to create even more- more time to create- machines do work. Steps in creative process: preparation- education and hard work, incubation- mental meandering- thinking, insight- light bulb goes off- make the connection, evaluation- articulate insight- show other people, elaboration- expanding upon that idea/evaluation/ polishing that idea. Systems model of creativity (domain, field, person: domain- a set of symbolic rules and procedures, field- individuals who act as gatekeepers within a domain, person- sees novelty within a domain and submits the novel idea to the field. Systems model, consequences of: individual differences less important, individual must be exposed to domain, creativity must manifest in existing domains, model allows for mysterious fluctuation of creativity over time, domains clarity, centrality, accessibility, clarity. More mature domains tend to be clearer in their structure.
