Document Summary
Abnormal behavior: definition and history of its treatment. Eccentrics: eccentric is a person who deviates from common behavior patterns or displays odd whimsical behavior, approx. 1 in 5,000 people are eccentric : function well, perhaps even better in some areas than non- eccentrics, ex. Benjamin franklin would sit outside naked trying to absorb the air (nude baths) Statistical rarity: any substantial deviation from a statistically calculated average, fall within a range around mean= normal , outside if range= abnormal, ex. People who are on the genius level of iq are on the tail end and therefore are considered abnormal- saying that if you are on the good side of the statistical rarity (higher iq) you begin making judgments. Not impairing: people with the disorder are now becoming judges on weather or not their behavior is normal- no clear standard for defining abnormal behavior because it varies from person to person.
