Document Summary

Independent of ctk"s and cyclin- m phase checkpoint. Dna damage checkpoint, and the importance of p53: p53 is a checkpoint. All of cells are constantly making protein p53. Being destroyed as fast as its being made: cells are constantly making and destroying p53; when theres a problem such as dna damage, cells phosphorylate p53, which changes its structure thereby influencing ability of protein to destroy it. Crossing over does not occur between sister chromatids. Instead, crossing over occurs between homologous chromosomes and chromatids; referred to as non-sister chromatids. Homologous chromosomes have same genes at same position of locus along chromosome. Effects of crossing over between sister chromatids- nothing! Principle of segregation; two copies of each gene are separated from one another and only one copy of each gene from each parent goes to the offspring. Independent assortment; two copies of one gene segregate independently of two copies of a different gene. Independent assortment: looking at more than one gene.
