We use the rocks we pick up on earth"s surface today to tell us about the pressure- temperature conditions and the tectonic setting of their formation. Rock has a greater potential to slide along foliation planes, and the infiltration of water can further weaken the integrity of a block rock. The rock cycle is a set of geologic processes relating to the formation of the three rock types. It was proposed by hutton more than 200 years ago: by hutton"s era: Geology exam two study guide: hutton proposed the plutonian theory of earth, arguing for subterranean fire and heat, hutton argued for vast expanses of time in earth"s history, with very little evidence to support his ideas.
