Document Summary

Psychological science is the study of mind, brain, and behaviour. Mental activity, such as thoughts, feelings, memories, and perceptual experiences. The physical entity within which biological processes take place and enable the mind. A wide variety of actions that occur in all organisms. In the past, few objective techniques were available for assessing the mind, so psychologists tended to focus mainly on behaviour. With the advent of technology to observe the brain in action, psychological scientists can now study mental states (such as consciousness), which in turn allow them to develop a fuller understanding of behaviour. There are four major themes that have defined this field (of psychological science) in the past and present: the principles of psychological science are cumulative. Science progresses in small, incremental steps, as knowledge accumulates based on systematic study of questions raised by what is already known; it builds on the foundation of shared knowledge: a new biological revolution is energising research.
