Topics outside these notes will still be tested on the exam. I also suggest that you pay closer attention to dr. benson"s ppt. handouts (for all chapters) available on. These are very well organized and will help you navigate though the textbook: exceptional children. Often refers to individuals who deviate from the norm to a special extent that special services are required. Refer to individuals who differ from social of community standards of normalcy. Both general and special education teachers use this term. Social and community norms: disability vs. handicap. Disability refers to limitations imposed on an individual: an inability/reduced capacity to perform a task in a specific way. Some examples of a disability are: sensory, cognitive, physical, learning difficulties, emotional, etc.
