Document Summary

Biology is the study of living things. Energy is taken from products we consume: animal products- energy held in the chemical bonds of the tissue, plant products- energy taken in from the sun, the source of the worlds energy. Food is broken down when consumed- breaking chemical bonds within the food is how energy is released: reproduction. Living organisms pass on genetic material to o spring. Humans pass genes through sexual reproduction: combining genetic material from two individuals, reseal in o spring that are not exact copies, increasing variability in the population. Reproduction makes evolution and natural selection possible: growth and development. Growth is an increase in the size and number of cells. Development is all the changes the occur from fertilization of the egg until death of the entire organism. Growth is a part of the developmental process. Stages of development: infant, child, adolescent, adult, elderly, maintain homeostasis.
