Activates internal signal transduction that makes proton pumps work faster to acidify the cell wall: acidification of cell wall not enough to loosen cell wall. Instead activates enzyme like wedges expansens: cause cell expansion- more water in central vacuole. Once it reaches undifferentiated cells, auxin does not do anything: not at stage in their life to respond to auxin. Which is why you get branching at the base of a plant: auxin does something with differentiated cells. Meristematic ones do nothing: for any receptor (ex mechanoreceptor) stretching of muscle stretches spring like receptors that will result in contraction. Touching knee will not do that but whacking knee will do.
