Basic theroy, development and current status of cbt. Reaction against freudian psychodynamic as is was questioned for having lack of empirical evidence. Between stimuli (events in environment) and responses (observable and measurable reactions from individual being studied) Used principles of learning theroy to modify unwanted behaviour and emotional reactions. Repeatedly the feared stimuli whilst practising relaxation so the fear response would be replaced by relaxation. A. t beck began in 1960s more influential in the 1970s. Bt and ct grew together and influenced eachother to create cognitive behaviour therapy (cbt) These give us the meaning or the intreptation of the event or experience. Men are not influenced by things, but by their thoughts about things (epictetus). Things are neither good nor bad, but thinking makes them so (hamlet, shakespeare). Cognitive principle people"s emotional reactions and behaviour are strongly influenced by cognitions (thoughts, beliefs, interpretations, etc. )
