PSYC1002 Chapter Notes - Chapter Review: Phenylalanine, Discriminant Validity, The Bell Curve
Document Summary
Individuality is a huge factor in intelligence and as such we have to examine differences in people before drawing any conclusions on this construct. This is further complicated by the fact that there are many types of intelligence and different studies or intelligence tests tend to focus on only a few of them. These types include goal- directed adaptive behaviour, ability to learn from experience, metacognition i. e. understanding and control of your own thinking such as reasoning, and abstract reasoning ability. In regards to intelligence tests, these are also flawed due to further complications such as validity and reliability. Moreover social factors such as politicisation have resulted in biases in scientific results. Further, intelligence tests were invented before the actual concept was dealt with and as a result the study came to define the concept as opposed to the other way around as it(cid:859)s (cid:373)ea(cid:374) to be in science.
