Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (adhd: adhd is diagnosed in 7% of the population, 21% of adults with adhd are thought to have a concurrent cocaine use disorder. Schizophrenia: the relationship between schizophrenia and sud is complicated, research has shown that those with schizophrenia have a 460% greater probability of developing a substance use disorder. In the case of schizophrenia it is thought that the nicotine helps to reverse many of the cognitive deficits associated with that disorder or the medications used to treat it.
