Chapter 28 - the assessment of suspected substance use disorders. Is composed of 10 different questions which taps the domains of: hazardous alcohol use, dependence symptoms, harmful alcohol use. It is over 90% effective: however is misses active drinker over the age of 65 abd is not appropriate for adolscent drinkers, can only assess aud. It does not address su issues but it does provide an objective measure of depression: the minnesota multiphasic personality inventory (mmpi) Is around 85% accurate in the detection of sud: mmpi-2 mac scale identified personality patterns more commonly associated with substance use disorders than actual suds. It is still used in the diagnosis stage of the assessment process. If the screening process suggests a sud then the clinician needs to measure the severity. The client is asked to describe what his or her substance use history was like at that point in life.
