As they expanded, they became a large power in the region. In the 7th century a new religion called islam was found and emerged in saudi arabia. As islam expanded, christian aksum was cut off from trade. Aksum expanded to the interior and became a feudal state, getting their revenue form taxes due to being cut out of the major trade. Before the muslims the aksum had traded with greeks, and phoenicians. Ethiopians were imported because they provided coffee, slaves and ivory. In the 16th century a religious war took place between the ethiopian muslims and christians over control of resources.
