Criminology: the body of knowledge regarding crime as a social phenomenon. changes as to what is crime, how people react to certain crime. It includes the process of making laws, breaking laws, and reacting to the breaking of laws (individually and as a community). Its objective is the development of a body of general and verified principles and of other types of knowledge regarding this process of law, crime, and treatment. The discipline of criminology includes six major areas: Definition of crime and criminals: what actually is a crime, we need an actual definition. Origins and role of law: how things have evolved over time. Some things that were illegal have now been legalized (abortion, same sex marriage, physician assisted suicide). The social distribution: trends in criminal behaviour, concentrations of crime in different locations (large or small), distribution of crime.
