Communication and interacting inside the internet remains unknown to research purposes. Computer-mediated communication (cmc) is the language people use through devices. Cmc has lack of punctuation, short forms, spelling errors, and informal features (internet. Language use via internet has dramatically increased over the past decades. Netspeak , term used by david crystal to describe language unique to internet. However, netspeak is not unique to internet. Various words to describe laughter have existed before cmc. Haha and hehe have existed in written language for awhile. Apparently, the term lol was included in a note from admiral john fisher to winston. Early de nitions restricted cmc to computers, but now it includes a scope of mobile phones, etc. Cmc may me a threat to literacy in youth (leading to grammatical destruction or ability to write properly)
