Document Summary

Population: a group of individuals of the same species that occupy at the same general area, utilizes the same resources and are affected by similar factors in their environment. Ecology: the study of how organisms interact with their environment. What is population ecology: measures changes in population size, population composition, and identifies factors that cause these changes, ex. Survivorship the proportion of offspring produces that survive to a specific age. Type 1: survivorship throughout life is high, the majority of individuals approach the maximum life span the curves are flat during early and middle life and drop suddenly as death rates increase among older individuals. Type 2: most individuals has a relatively constant survivorship over their lifetime, curves are intermediates with mortality being more constant over life span, constant mortality/ steady survivorship. Green sea turtles: note: many species display curves in between the 3 basic survivorship curve types, some have more complex survivorship curves.
