Document Summary
Temperament, attachment style, and parenting are all related. Temperament and parenting style both influence likelihood of secure attachment. Temperament can affect parenting, and parenting can affect temperament. Emotional tone of the family: warmth vs. hostility and parental responsiveness (the basis of synchrony) Methods of control in the family: rules, expectations, and punishments. There is a 2x2 parenting style model. Emotional tone of the family: warmth and responsiveness. A warm parent is affectionate and caring, will place the child"s needs ahead of their own, and is empathetic. When saying no, a warm parent will explain why and will speak softly. Hostile parents reject their children overtly, and the children know that the parents don"t love or want them. Kids from warm families are more likely to be securely attached, are skilled with their peers, have a high self-esteem, are empathetic, behave more altruistically, listen better, are less aggressive, have higher iqs, and do better in school.
